The existing water system consists of water wells on shallow and deep groundwater aquifers,
surface water intake on the Columbia River and associated treatment plant, the water
distribution, pressure-sustaining pump stations and storage reservoirs.

The primary source of water for the City of Hermiston is its system of groundwater wells.  The
City has six municipal permits for this source totaling 21.7 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 14
million gallons per day (MGD).  The City also has municipal water rights to the Minnehaha
Spring totaling 7.0 cfs, or 4.5 MGD and an agreement with the Port of Umatilla for a share of
its right to the Columbia River for 1,500 gallons per minute (gpm) or 2.1 MGD.
